- Knowledge Questions: Question(s) that assess knowledge of the topic area (i.e., latest guidelines, clinical trial results).
- Competence Questions: Question(s) that assess a learner’s diagnostic and/or management skills in the course topic area and their ability to apply knowledge to a clinical situation. Competence questions are typically in the format of a “mini-case.”

Although a minimum of two Knowledge and one Competence questions are required, the specific number of questions depends on the individual course and its specific Learning Objectives. As a broad guideline, we recommend four to five scored Pre and Post Test questions. The proportion of Knowledge and Competence questions is generally aligned with the proportion of knowledge-focused and competency-focused Learning Objectives.
