Knowledge and Competence (Scored) Questions

Last Updated: Jul 14, 2015 09:31PM UTC
There are two types of scored RealMeasure® questions that compose the Pre Test and Post Test in Plus courses:
  • Knowledge Questions: Question(s) that assess knowledge of the topic area (i.e., latest guidelines, clinical trial results).
  • Competence Questions: Question(s) that assess a learner’s diagnostic and/or management skills in the course topic area and their ability to apply knowledge to a clinical situation. Competence questions are typically in the format of a “mini-case.”
Knowledge and Competence questions can be either multiple choice or true/false questions. Both question types are paired and identical in the Pre Test and Post Test sections.

Example of a Competence question:

Although a minimum of two Knowledge and one Competence questions are required, the specific number of questions depends on the individual course and its specific Learning Objectives. As a broad guideline, we recommend four to five scored Pre and Post Test questions. The proportion of Knowledge and Competence questions is generally aligned with the proportion of knowledge-focused and competency-focused Learning Objectives.
